WHO IS ROBERT WHANSLAW?
Author of British noir and psychological fiction
I write stories about people, secrets and the choices that can change everything.
My novels are rooted in England, often looking back to the 1970s and 1980s — a time before smartphones, social media and a world watched by cameras at every turn.
There is something about that period that continues to fascinate me. Conversations happened face to face. Information travelled more slowly. And sometimes, if someone wanted to disappear, they really could.
That atmosphere provides the backdrop for my stories, but the characters are always at the centre. I am interested in what people hide, what they want, and what happens when the two collide.
The Books
My first novel, The Boy Who Changed His World, is a coming-of-age story set in England in 1978, exploring friendship, bullying, family and the possibility of hope in difficult circumstances.
Dark Orchid Affair moves into darker territory — a psychological thriller of obsession, betrayal and manipulation set in southwest London.
My latest novel, The Man at Table Nine, is a psychological crime story set in 1980s London, and the first book in the Deadly & Dangerous Women series.
What's Next?
I am currently working on the second novel in the Deadly & Dangerous Women series, The Other Becky Grayburn, due in Spring 2027.
The story takes inspiration from Patricia Highsmith's The Talented Mr Ripley, but follows its own characters, secrets and dangerous path.
